There are many ghosts in American Horror Story Season 1’s haunted house. It is very very interesting tv serial albeit totally irrational. The ghosts in this serial can become anything you want them to be. They are motivated, driven, human, cynical, vengeful, horrendous and loving too. Except for the fact that they get to live for ever ( or at least till the haunted house is razed to the ground) and they get this amazing super power, which allows them to appear and disappear at will,there hardly appear to be any problem in being a ghost. Ghosts can plot, scheme, conspire and use their physical and mental powers. Hell, they can even love, perform complicated operations or have casual SEX! I mean why won’t one want to be a ghost.
The ghosts also appear and disappear in the serial at the whims of the script writer. The Gay Couple, firstly appeared only on Halloween, and then could appear any time they want. The youth who tried to enact the first grisly murder and were eventually killed by Tate, appear only for the limited purpose of killing Dr. Ben with the ex girlfriend of the Doctor Ben who had earlied appeared and fooled even the police. Then we get to know that if you die in this house, you become a ghost and get trapped in the house itself. I wonder why ex husband of Constance never appeared once in the house. He sure died in the house itself.
Then is the question of that awesome maid–Moria–who appears lavishing ravishing to men ( really seductive) and old and motherly to women. Even her voice changes when she talks to men or women. She is the only ghost to ages. Now there are some ghosts who appear with the scars they got when they died: with the wounds which caused their death. There are others who have no scars at all, Tate and Moria being the case in point.
Why is Moria so seductive? Why is Tate a Sociapath and also a humble attractive teenagers? Now, what is Moria doing anyway? Why is she so afraid of Constance and why doesn’t she seek revenge? Can a ghost just improve his psyche and fall in love? In American Horror Story they do.
The entire series is engaging, but is sadly based on premise that if you are watching a tv show based on ghosts, you won’t be using much brains anyway! If you have some hours to kill, go ahead and watch it. . .just don’t use your prefrontal cortex a lot.
